We are accustomed to always seeing glossy pictures in magazines or on the internet, but behind those images is a web of actions, sacrifices and efforts that lead to the end result: the project, the building. The constructed building is the result of a complex process, made up of ups and downs. This is what we will speak about: what happens “behind the scenes” of projects.”

Enrico Frigerio received his degree in Architecture from the University of Genoa in 1980 and then joined the workshop of Renzo Piano, where he learned the trade at his side. In 1991 he founded Frigerio Design Group, an interdisciplinary group that considers an architectural project as a meeting point encompassing several areas: nature, local history, construction technique and client needs. This meeting point generates slow architecture, a progressive architecture that lasts in time and is defined by the resources taken from the context of the site. An architecture that is slow in its method, time and processes. It is at the opposite end of globalization. It is unique and defined by history, social profile and cost-effectiveness, in addition to environmental and bioclimatic factors that become a part of the project, to create space in which to live with the utmost quality making it energy efficient and socially and economically reasonable. Some of the main publications include “Slow Architecture for Living”, the FDG manifesto published by Skira in 2005, “Slow Architecture instructions for use”, an essay published by Libria in 2009, now available in digital format from LetteraVentidue edizioni. In November 2010, the book “Architecture of Energy was published by 24Ore Cultura and in January 2011 Hachette published “The Masters of Architecture”, the monograph of “Frigerio Design Group”.
